History and Mission
Our History
St. Thomas Community Health Center (CHC) was founded in 1987 by residents of the St. Thomas Housing Development and was readily assisted by a volunteer group consisting of physicians, community activists, Trinity Episcopal Church parishioners and two Sisters of Charity. The clinic was initially housed within the St. Thomas Housing Development and began with the purpose of providing primary health care to the surrounding community i.e., those who were in desperate need of access to healthcare services as an alternative to the other charity hospitals of New Orleans. The founders believed that local residents deserved a community health center with lesser wait times, offering a high quality of care, and with doctors having cultural competency and a true concern for the community.
Our Mission
Our mission is to impact the health of the New Orleans region by providing a culturally competent, patient-centered medical home, offering the highest quality of coordinated services at the lowest patient cost.
Our Vision
Our vision of the future is of a more vibrant, engaged, resilient and healthier community with reduced social and economic issues and barriers that create healthcare disparities.
